MRC Pontiac approves funds for potential abattoir bid, appoints new Economic Development director
A special meeting of MRC Pontiac council was held on March 13, in order to pass a resolution authorizing MRC funds in support of keeping the Abattoir des Viandes du Pontiac in operation. The business recently filed for bankruptcy protection, and their assets are set to be auctioned off, with the deadline of March 15.
MRC Director General Kim Lesage explained that they have been in talks with local producers and various government partners looking to keep the facility operating and would be authorizing the use of some funds from the FRR components 3 and 4 in the event that a local offer is accepted.
Also at the meeting, the mayors passed a resolution approving the appointment of Pierre Cadieux as the new Economic Development Director. Cadieux declined to be interviewed following the meeting, but briefly addressed the mayors.
