Artist reveals TOAD-ally cool new mural on Ferry Island

June 24, 2024 by Sabrina Spencer

Local artist Casey Braam has embarked on a new mural project on Fairy Island featuring amphibians.

The project, commissioned by Skeena of Salmon Art Fest and Terrace Community Forest, was an open call for artists to propose their own concepts. Braam’s idea features a vibrant depiction of the toad’s life cycle, a nod to the local tradition of observing toads around the island’s pond.

Braam shared with CFNR that the mural’s creation process has been interactive, with community members frequently stopping by to watch and discuss the work. He finds this public engagement particularly rewarding, as it transforms the mural into a shared community experience.

Among his other notable works around Terrace are murals of Coho salmon and river otters at Scotia Bank, The popular moose mural at the Remax building, visible from the Tim Hortons drive-through, is one of Braam’s creations.

Braam expects to complete the Fairy Island mural in a few days.
