As fares go up, activists call for more public transit funding
Fares across the ARTM, Montreal’s regional transit authority, went up on July 1 by an average of three per cent. At a demonstration on Wednesday, activists said the hundred-dollar monthly passes and $3.75 tickets are a barrier to low-income Montrealers.
They’d like to see the city prioritize low-income users, as well as those with disabilities. But protestors say the province needs to cough up more funding – not just for the ARTM but public transit agencies across Quebec.
