Report shows drop in median wage, need for immigration in the Columbia Basin
Last week, Selkirk Innovates published their yearly State of the Basin report. The report looks at the economic, environmental, cultural, and social well-being of the Columbia Basin-Boundary Region.
To gain insights into the workforce, demographics, and business climate statistics, Kootenay Co-op Radio interviewed Tom Thomson, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce in Nelson.
Thompson spoke about the median wage going from $29/hour to $28/hour, the labour force replacement rate being too low to maintain the current labour force, an increase in net migration and a decline in the number of business starts.
