Locally molded football helmet being tested by the NFL
Superbowl Sunday is only a couple of weeks away. For a company in the Eastern Townships, it has special significance.
A locally manufactured and designed helmet has attracted the attention of the National Football League and it’s being tested on the field.
Serge Fraser, owner of Optimoule in Thetford Mines, has collaborated with Montreal-based consortium Kollide to introduce the innovative helmet. The helmet design won the NFL Helmet Challenge in 2021, an initiative sponsored by the NFL to foster the development and manufacturing of a safer, lighter helmet.
While not universally adopted in the NFL, teams are testing it, showcasing Optimoule’s impact on sports safety innovation.
CJMQ News talked to Serge Fraser about his company and the compromises in material properties for the shell, emphasizing Optimoule’s contribution to design simplicity and manufacturing cost reduction.
