Toronto Animals Services seek to curb serious dog attacks with new actions
Following a dangerous dog attack in July 2023 Toronto Animal Services (TAS) gave its review at a recent Economic and Community Development Committee meeting and outlined next steps to prevent further attacks.
TAS review has led them to the conclusion to improve community safety, 11 actions need to be taken. Of the 11 three stand out.
TAS intends to create a public list of dangerous dogs online. The list would include the dogs name and breed. Letting community members see which dogs to keep an eye on in their neighbourhoods.
To ensure proper training in obedience and socialization they intend to create discount for owners of dangerous dogs. As the review was just adopted no further information on the discount is available.
Lastly owners who receive a dangerous dog order need to display a warning sign. TAS intends to create a standardized sign for owners of dangerous dogs. Currently any ‘beware dangerous dog’ sign is allowed.
