Annual Port Hope river race adds new category this year – “floaties”
A new inflatable category has been added to the lineup for the 2024 Float Your Fanny Down the Ganny event Saturday in Port Hope.
Float Your Fanny Down the Ganny commemorates the community’s resilience following the 1980 flood of the Ganaraska River.
The “Crazy Craft” category is on hiatus this year due to the ongoing Sylvan Glen Bridge construction and has been replaced by floaties — the kinds of inflatables you see at the beach, sometimes shaped like unicorns and loons. Entrants can also still tackle the full 16-kilometer route in a canoe or kayak, launching from Canton.
The new inflatable category offers a shorter river run option from Optimist Park, providing an opportunity to join the race without the need to construct a complex craft.
Registration for participants is open at floatyourfanny.ca and can be completed on race day as well.
