Two years in, the Smithers Situation Table proves success in helping the community
In 2011, the city of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan implemented a ‘first of its kind’ model for services and protection agencies to share limited but necessary information to other frontline professionals and collaborate around the needs of their shared clients.
Smithers followed Prince Albert’s lead, and established what it called the Situation Table in 2021. The Smithers Situation Table meets weekly in confidential meetings where these service providers meet to share the load and respond immediately to people in need in Smithers and the nearby Witset First Nation.
Jocelyn Foidart, an RCMP officer from the Smithers Detachment said that the Situation Table has resulted in far less non-criminal calls being made to the Detachment. Bronwyn Young works at the Northern Society for Domestic Peace and has been a part of the Situation Table since inception in 2021. Foidart and Young talked to CICK News about what the Situation Table has accomplished in the years since it was started.
