Council weighs remediation or new build for Gane Yohs Health Centre
Six Nations Elected Council (SNEC) are determining an action plan on its next steps to deal with the continued closure of the Gane Yohs Health Centre.
The centre has been closed due to the presence of mold since the spring. SNEC CEO Nathan Wright says he’s been working with both the Minister of Indigenous Services Patty Hajdu and Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) to determine whether remediation on the existing building will occur or if a new building is needed.
Wright says the costs of either option will be covered by ISC even though the health center is not an asset under ISC ownership.
ISC spokesperson, Ryan Tyndall says ISC will continue to work with Six Nations and is committed to facilitating either mould remediation or a new build based on an expert assessment.
Gane Yohs Health Centre remains closed and many of the affected services are operating out of the White Pines Wellness Centre.
