Impact of two-year cap on international students expected to be ‘minimal’ at Trent
On Jan. 22, Canada’s Immigration Minister Marc Miller made an announcement that the government will be reducing the number of study permits granted to incoming international students for two years, in order to “stabilize growth.”
The local impact of the announcement was not immediately clear, but statements opposing the policy change were heard from Fleming College, Peterborough City Council and Trent University.
Over one month has passed since the announcement and much is still unclear; Trent Radio spoke with Trent International’s Global Engagement Manager Paul Longhurst to find clarity about what this means for international students at Trent University.
