McGill Law talk explores rising interest in prison abolition
McGill Law hosted their annual Proulx Roundtable on April 11, with the theme of prison abolition. Panelists El Jones, Debra Parkes, and Justin Piché spoke about the harms that come from incarceration, and the ways that aspiring lawyers can get involved in systemic change.
Parkes said that before 2020’s Black Lives Matter uprising, these discussions within law schools were rare. She and others are seeing a rise in interest from young lawyers – and this year’s roundtable is one way McGill Law is responding to that interest.
