All Cape Breton Regional Municipality MLAs re-elected in provincial election
The Progressive Conservatives are returning to the Nova Scotia Legislature with a majority government claiming 43 of 55 seats.
The NDP won nine constituencies becoming the official opposition while the Liberals have two seats.
Meanwhile, all five MLAs in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality have been re-elected including the NDP’s Kendra Coombs, the Liberal’s Derek Mombourquette and Tories Fred Tilly, Brian Comer and John White.
Mombourquette says his party’s poor turnout and losing official opposition status could be a result of voter dissatisfaction with the Federal Liberals. Former Liberal Fred Tilley crossed the floor before the election joining the Tories netting a resounding win of 67 per cent of the vote.
Coombs praises party leader Claudia Chender for becoming the first woman elected in the province as the official opposition leader. White did not respond to an interview request but CKOA Radio spoke to the other MLAs.
