Bay of Islands MHA demands meeting with Premier to discuss lack of student assistants
It ‘s been two weeks since Bay of Islands MHA Eddie Joyce wrote a letter to the Premier about the lack of student assistants at schools. Now, he’s written another letter and says parents want to meet with the Premier. One of the issues is related to student assistant job postings, which he says came out too late.
The Department of Education issued a statement late last week stating that student assistant hours are allocated to schools according to students’ needs. For the 2024-25 school year the Department of Education has allocated an additional 160 full time equivalent student assistant positions in the public education system. An additional 40 instructional resource teachers were also hired to support students this school year.
