Engage Sport North celebrates 30 years of developing pathways to athletic excellence
Quietly operating throughout Northern BC, now celebrating 30 years of service, is Engage Sport North. Currently headquartered in UNBC’s Northern Sport Centre, they’ve been helping athletes of sports and stripes to get to the next level of competition. The organization aids them to consistently level up, all the way to the olympics in some cases. In the language of competitive athletics, this is known as “developing pathways to excellence”.
Executive Director Sarah Saunders is proud to focus attention on her organization’s efforts which have come a long way since its inception. A consistent goal has been to bring specialized services to the North so athletes are better able to remain close to their families in the communities where they grew up around familiar supports. Director of High Performance Simon Lamarche represents some of those services, as the testing he performs is typically only available in much larger centres.
