HRM approves funding plan for updates to hybrid technologies
Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) Council met virtually Tuesday afternoon to approve a funding plan to update technology in council chambers.
The plan includes hybrid technology options for council meetings and will replace the current audio-visual hardware and software.
HRM council approved the $654,540 cost for the new hardware and software. The capital budget will allow for $500,000 of those funds and the rest will come from an existing capital account.
Coun. Tim Outhit said he couldn’t support the funding since residents are facing potential significant tax increases. But Coun. Shawn Cleary said a hybrid option would be effective.
“We are seeing people we wouldn’t normally see joining us and providing their input at council meetings,” Cleary said.
The motion passed with Outhit voting it down.
