The County celebrates the start of new hospital construction- the first all mass timber hospital in North America
The construction of the new hospital in Picton has begun, and to celebrate the momentous occasion the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation and Quinte Health hosted a party inviting the entire community to help celebrate.
With an expected opening date in 2027, this hospital build is the first of its kind for the Ontario Ministry of Health. It will be the first all mass timber hospital in North America and will be the lowest energy use hospital in North America.
Several speakers praised the efforts of the community for raising $23 million that will furnish and equip the new facility but the highlight of the evening was the presentation by architect Jason Emery. He pointed out that hospitals are some of the worst offenders of energy use, a major factor driving the innovative design of the building.
