BC Winter Games returns to Quesnel – this time in partnership with Lhtako Dene Nation
With funding secured and volunteers on the way, President of the Lhtako Quesnel 2024 BC Winter Games Brian Balkwill, looks ahead to the big event as the pieces fall into place.
The last time the games came to Quesnel was 24 years ago. They return this year with a promising partnership between the municipality, and the Lhtako Dene First Nation. The event notes that co-hosting these games not only highlights Indigenous culture and ways of life, but also recognizes the traditional territory. With a fresh board of directors since the 2000 games, challenges are being solved one by one.
Enbridge stepped up with a $25,000 sponsorship along with a contingent of volunteers. Lhtako Dene nation, local School District, Cariboo Regional District, Media partners and a bevy of local businesses support the event. The central challenge between now and February 22nd may be the weather itself.
