Sarsfield hosts this year’s Ottawa-Carleton Plowing Match
The 2024 Ottawa-Carleton Plowing Match is being held near Sarsfield this year, the first time it has been held in the area since 2011. The competition is Aug. 23-24 at Chretien Family Farms on Dunning Road just outside of Sarsfield, east of Ottawa.
Organizers have planted signs in the area directing visitors to the farm where farmers will compete by plowing the straightest possible furrow. There are different heats and classes of tractors, as well as horse-drawn plows, and both experienced and inexperienced can participate.
Aug. 23 is for VIP plowing, which means sponsors, politicians and media will use a tractor to plow as straight as they can. Friday, August 24 is for the serious competition. Winners will move on to compete in higher level plowing matches next year. Visitors can follow the signs to the match at 2808 Dunning Road.
