Six Nations Fire lacrosse team kicks off first season
The Six Nations Fire lacrosse team launching their first season, allowing more local athletes the opportunity to be able to play competitive lacrosse for their hometown community.
The Fire will begin their inaugural season April 27 as the team will participate in the First Nations Junior B Lacrosse League (FNJBLL).
The FNJBLL includes 5 teams from First Nations across New York state and Six Nations will be the only Canadian team within the league.
Six Nations Fire will now join the Six Nations Rebels as the second Jr. B team in the community.
Marshall Powless, Six Nations Fire offensive coordinator, spoke on the community being able to support both teams.
“Six Nations Reserve has a lot of great talent with lacrosse,” he said.
“We made this team in hopes to give opportunities to the players that might’ve been overlooked or maybe some other players that wanted to join the team as well,” he added.
