Increase in suspected overdoses in Six Nations, councillor speaks out
Six Nations Health Services (SHNS) says the community has seen a rise in suspected opioid overdoses in recent weeks.
SNHS made the announcement of the increased incidents in a May 3 media release and say drugs such as fentanyl are known to be circulating in the area.
Coun. Melba Thomas raised her concerns during the SNGR Chief and Council Radio Show today.
“We have some very sad situations that [are happening] on the reserve. We almost lose some of our people on a weekly, or monthly basis connected to mental heath issues and addictions.”
Thomas says the community needs to develop a strategic plan to address the issues surrounding mental health and addictions, and is looking forward to working with the rest of Six Nations Elected Council in addressing those issues.
