Six Nations prepares for ‘Great North American Eclipse’ next month
The Six Nations community is getting ready to experience what experts are calling a “once in a lifetime” experience as the community will be encountering a total solar eclipse on Apr. 8.
During a community information session on Mar. 4, McMaster professor Dr. Robert Cockcroft detailed the eclipse and how community members can view and stay safe during the event.
Six Nations will experience the full eclipse from 3:17 p.m. to 3:18 p.m. on Apr. 8 with the start of the partial eclipse beginning at 2:03 p.m.
Cockcroft says community looking to participate in the event will need to be wearing protective eclipse glasses that will protect individuals from suffering eye damages.
Special Eclipse protective glasses are available for community members at the Six Nations Public Library, and a community viewing for the solar eclipse will be held at Six Nations Parks & Recreation from 1:30-3:30 p.m. on Apr. 8.
