Support arrives for isolated families in the Eastern Townships
Magog and Stanstead has welcomed a new proximity worker in the Eastern Townships. His name is Steve Côté and his role focuses on supporting vulnerable families, with collaboration from Maison de la famille Memphremagog, Centre de pédiatrie sociale Le Tandem, and Équipe Ressources Relais, supported by the Ministry of Family.
Proximity workers engage with isolated, vulnerable and underserved people in the community, helping them connect with social services and accessing resources.
Addressing challenges faced by families with children aged 0 to 5, Côté identifies poverty and a lack of parenting education as concerns in the region. He emphasizes trust-building, presenting his role more as a friend than an intervention, with examples of tangible support like event tickets and transportation.
To connect with Steve Côté, individuals can call 819-609-1620 or reach out through Maison de la famille Memphremagog. While focused on Magog and Stansted, he expresses flexibility in assisting families beyond his territory, collaborating with other proximity workers.
