Environment Minister announces $8.6 million for affordable home energy retrofits
Canada’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change Steven Guilbeault came to Peterborough for a funding announcement on Feb. 22.
The federal government, and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Green Municipal Fund, are partnering with the City of Peterborough to provide $8.6 million to the new Home Energy Efficiency Program.
Guilbeault says that this program will allow Peterborough homeowners to “access investment for energy efficiency home improvements like upgrading windows, doors, air sealing and insulation, heat pumps, and other alternative energy sources, such as solar panels.”
This new city program is intended to help reach the emissions targets set in Peterborough’s 2019 Climate Emergency Declaration, by helping up to 600 households access home energy retrofits, says Guilbeault.
Listen to Mayor Jeff Leal, GreenUP’s Tegan Moss, and FCM’s Rowena Santos speak at the announcement.
