Tantramar council to weigh in on industrial rezoning which has neighbours concerned
Beale and Inch Construction wants to expand a maintenance building on their property at 146 York Street in Sackville, but the company will need to change their zoning to do so. The business is currently located in a residential zone, but grandfathered in with an allowance for non-conforming use.
Neighbouring residents are concerned about a potential increase in activity at the site, which they say causes local air quality and noise issues. At the public hearing on the proposed rezoning last month, resident Andrew Wilson told council, “the issue before us is that we’re really trying to find the right arrangement, the right balance of interests between the residents and the business.”
Councillors are expected to hear first reading of the rezoning on Tuesday, and will have the choice of moving ahead, rejecting the request, or asking for further work on the conditions around the rezoning.
