Guelph General Hospital identified as level three trauma centre
On Thursday, Guelph General Hospital was identified as a Level III Trauma Centre.
Chief of Staff Dr. Alex Ferguson explains that level three centres care for injured patients primarily with single-system trauma. Ferguson added they work with level one centres to stabilize patients who have multi-system trauma.
He added these level three centres provide a more established role in regional trauma networks. The hospital stated the designation is “a part of a strategic action to improve trauma care delivery in the Waterloo-Wellington region and enhance the region’s trauma network by creating an inclusive, integrated, and accountable trauma system,” in a recent news release.
Ferguson says hospitals in Northern Wellington County will continue to be aided by this trauma Centre in Guelph.
CICW spoke with Ferguson on the heels of the news, to learn more about how this will affect local care, the regional trauma network, and more.
