Fredericton’s Net Zero Greenhouse receives international recognition
The City of Fredericton recently received three awards at the Communities in Bloom National & International Awards in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.
Two of the awards went to the city’s Net Zero Greenhouse project, which launched back in March. They received the Healthier, Livable Cities Award and the Tree Management award for its efforts towards tree care across the region.
The greenhouse houses 5000 tree seedlings that will eventually be planted in various greenspaces around the region and produces a net of zero emissions through natural lighting, irrigation and temperature control using an Earth battery. It aims at maintaining the municipalities urban forest, high percentage of canopy cover and collecting seeds to maintain the growth of native species to Fredericton.
