In collaboration with The Electric City Culture Council, Peterborough’s second Poet Laureate Ziysah von Bieberstein launched “Poets of Nogojiwanong,” a catalogue of spoken word artists in the community on Sept.3.
The project was initially curated in April 2024, seeing 30 local spoken word artists commissioned to share a writing prompt on social media. These poets, and their writing prompts, are now all collected in a single webpage; von Bieberstein hopes this directory will make it easier for people to find “professional poets” for work.
“Poets of Nogojiwanong” is von Bieberstein’s Legacy Project, a piece of work that is expected of each Peterborough Poet Laureate, in addition to three performances at municipal events or City Council meetings.
Von Bieberstein’s final official performance at City Council as Poet Laureate will be on Sept. 23.
