Canadian Blood Services is hosting a mobile blood donation clinic at the Trent Athletic Centre on March, 13, and they are getting fewer registrations than they are used to.
Trent Radio spoke with Jill Gemmiti, Community Development Manager for Canadian Blood Services Peterborough, to learn more about the donation process, and the potential reasons they are seeing less interest.
A unique characteristic of the Trent University mobile clinics (which occur four times every year) is that the majority of participants are first-time blood donors; Gemmiti believes that many people who have never donated before believe in myths and misconceptions regarding blood donation.
As of March 1, Gemmiti shared that March 13 the clinic was only 28.7 per cent booked. Gemmiti explores some common myths surrounding recreational cannabis use, tattoos, and sexual orientation.
